Better Hands Employment Program

Richmond - Yarra Region

Pathways to Employment 11 - 12

For the last 15 years, the Australian Vietnamese Women's Association AVA Migrant Training & Employment Centre has provided free employment services to job seekers and employers. The AVWA continues its program of support for young Vietnamese adults aged 18 – 30 who have had contact and involvement with Justice Victoria.

The Better Hands Employment Program involves a multi-tiered approach to assist 15 marginalised job seekers:

  • Pre-employment – resume structure training, interviewing skills, and vocational education resources
  • Post-employment – advocacy if required, emotional and mental support, ensuring the participant understands workplace relations, procedures, and protocols
  • Support services – referrals, linking participants to culturally appropriate services, family conflict management/resolution, and drug and alcohol counselling
