YWCA Victoria works to improve the lives of women by ending inequality. Their community services work to create opportunities for women facing disadvantage and are delivered through three program priority areas – housing, mentoring and community strengthening.

Women at Work is an employment readiness program which provides a fresh approach to job seeking by using group and arts based therapy for women who have been unemployed long-term. Particular barriers identified include low self esteem, lack of motivation, discrimination, family responsibilities, pregnancy, Culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, carer duties, disability, and lack of job skills.

The program addresess issues of self esteem, communication, stress management, and overcoming fears and barriers. Practical components include resume writing, computer skills, job seeking skills, and interview skills.

The program will be offered to 40 women who live in Thornbury, Preston, Reservoir, and Northcote. Thank you to Portland House Foundation for supporting this project.
