2010 Pathways to Employment Grant Recipients

This year marks $250,000 in grants to local employment-related projects since our official launch in February 2008. To date these grants have enabled more than 300 people across Darebin, Moreland and Yarra to get involved in programs to boost their chances of getting and keeping a job. In the previous two grant rounds, funded projects assisted more than 67 people to gain work. Click here to read about the projects we're supporting in 2010-2011.

New Report on the Growth of Community Foundations Worldwide

Published by the Global Fund for Community Foundations, this report documents the emergence of community foundations across low and middle income countries. It demonstrates the growing relevance of locally formulated community development and the shift away from top down strategies of many government and international aid programs. $400,000 boost to our grant-making fund

With the support of people across our community we officially reached our $100,000 target on the 29 June 2010. In doing this, the community will secure $300,000 in State Government funding towards our grant-making fund which will significantly boost the level of project funding we offer. As our fund is perpetual, the community will benefit from this boost every year for lifetimes to come. Thank you to everyone who helped us with donations, attendance at our events, volunteering their time and expertise and advising us along the way. We are privileged to work in such a dynamic region.

Time Will Tell: Showcasing Stories of Good Philanthropy

Case studies of 11 projects funded by the Helen Macpherson Smith Trust, Reichstein Foundation, Melbourne Community Foundation, Portland House Foundation and The Myer Foundation between 1983 and 2007. Maximising Community Outcomes through Design Thinking

A Stanford Social Innovation Review article that challenges community organisations to reflect on the extent to which their work really is people-centred. The article provides examples of initiatives that have been successful because they were designed with communities and offers food for thought for organisations in the community sector. A study into the extent to which Melbourne's North is equipped to take advantage of future economic opportunities. The report includes useful information on population growth forecasts and corresponding accommodation and transport needs.
