Statement on the 2023 Referendum

To our Inner North Foundation community,

Later this year, the Australian people will vote in a yes/no referendum on enshrining in the Constitution of Australia an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament and Government.

Supporting prosperous connected and cohesive communities is core to the work of the Inner North Community Foundation. Our community has a long history of charitable groups working to remove the barriers that people face in living prosperous lives. In our community there are different views on how to progress, and we are keen to have a robust, evidence based and respectful exchange of ideas and different options.

The Inner North Community Foundation recognises that not everyone will vote ‘yes’ and we fully respect that a range of avenues are required for self-determination for First Nations peoples.

Notwithstanding, the Inner North Community Foundation affirms its support for the Uluru Statement from the Heart and Constitutional recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Peoples, and therefore supports the ‘yes’ position in the referendum. We look forward to the parliamentary process that would follow such an outcome.
